  • Record/Vinyl + Digital Album

Classic version of The Feathers of Oblivion double vinyl.

There was little to no post-editing, so you can hear the birdsong in Spring, the wind blowing through the trees in Summer, a barren silence in Autumn, and chilly raindrops falling down on microphones and messing with electricity in Winter. Unlike a standard studio-recorded album, Feathers of Oblivion contains elements of field recording, resulting in an account of how this sacred place atop Budeč hill sounds throughout the changing seasons of the year and what its ambience does to various aspects of the music.
This unique project was brought to perfection in the mixing phase by Ben Etchells, known as the frontman of London’s The Vultures or the sound engineer of The Rutles, and the vinyl mastering was done by Ade Emsley, a true master of the craft, who has also worked with Iron Maiden and many others.

about

As a concept, the Feathers of Oblivion first appeared in late 2016. The initial idea was to record four mini albums out in the open on the top of Budeč hill in Central Bohemia, somewhere in the ruins of the Church of the Nativity of the Virgin Mary from the 10th century.

Budeč hill is connected to early Czech history, to the times when king Wenceslas was raised and educated, but its populated history is even longer, reaching as far back as the Bronze Age. Some say that the hill possesses healing energies, others say it’s just a hill – either way, when you’re standing on its top, you can definitely sense a primordial feeling of something that transcends us and allows us to come closer to nature if not coalesce with it altogether.

And it was precisely this fusion that we attempted in Feathers. Our aim was to capture the spirit of the place in the liminal moments of the year – the solstices and equinoxes – so we had a fixed and merciless schedule, whatever the weather or our physical condition. Everything was recorded live, and as such it was not meant to be perfect – the idea was to include all the sounds of nature that find their way into the recording during the session. So you can hear the birdsong in Spring, the wind blowing through the trees in Summer, a barren silence in Autumn, and chilly raindrops falling down on microphones and messing with electricity in Winter.
Rather than a standard studio-recorded album, Feathers of Oblivion is more of a field recording – an account of how this sacred place atop Budeč hill sounds throughout the changing seasons of the year and what its ambience does to our music.

To give credit where it’s due: one major figure involved in the making of these albums is Ben Etchells, who mixed all four seasons better than anyone else could, and also Ade Emsley, who mastered the final sound for the vinyl. It was a great honour and pleasure to work with them.

So, finally, after a year’s work, we are very excited to present the final version of the Feathers of Oblivion.

So please accept our invitation for a guided trip through the mysteries of the seasons at Budeč hill. Sit back, relax and JOIN THE RITUAL!
